How do I know I need a Transmission Position Sensor Replacement?

The Transmission Position Sensor, also called the Transmission Range Sensor  is an electronic sensor that provides a position input to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) so that the transmission can be properly controlled by the PCM according to the position commanded by the sensor.

When the Transmission Position Sensor fails you can experience several things:

  • Vehicle wont start
  • Vehicle wont move
  • Transmission goes into a different gear than the one selected
  • Vehicle enters limp mode

How much will it cost?

The typical cost for the testing and replacement is between $130-$1440 for parts and labor. This price range is averaged across all passenger vehicles. The actual cost depends on your specific make, model and year. Depending on your specific vehicle, this cost may be lower or higher. This cost estimate is for the specific repair listed and doesn’t include additional, related items that may require repair.

What is included:

  • Diagnosis of Transmission Position Sensor
  • Replacement of defective component
  • Up to 3 year warranty against defects

Additional components requiring repair or replacement, may result in additional charges
