Auxiliary Water Pump Replacement

auxiliary water pump

Auxiliary Water pumps are designed to move coolant through a vehicles heater core. They are not found on every car. They were first introduced in 1990s luxury and diesel vehicles. The auxiliary water pump does not run all the time. It is only on when certain conditions are met, such as engine RPM, vehicle speed, or temperature selected on the vehicles climate control system.

Failure typically occurs because of age and wear of the electric motor inside the auxiliary water pump. When this happens you will typically experience

  • Reduced heat at low engine speed or idle
  • The failure of the auxiliary water pump will not cause overheating.
