The leak detection pump is part of your vehicles emissions system. The leak detection pump is designed to check for leaks in the fuel vapor system that too small to see.  During the self-test procedure, your vehicles ECU will check the mechanical and electrical function of the leak detection pump.

If it pass this test, the ECU will have the Leak Detection Pump seal the Evaporative vent and pump air into the sealed system. The ECU will monitor the pressure and length of time the Leak Detection Pump runs and the amount of pressure the Evaporative system hold to determine if there is a leak. If there is leak, the ECU will calculate the size of the leak based on the system pressure and length of time the Leak detection pump runs. The symptoms your vehicle will experience are:
