P13A1 is triggered on BMW and MINI when the Digital Motor Electronics (DME/ECU) has detected high-intensity knocking on cylinder 2 under heavy loads.
Common causes
- Carbon buildup creating hotspots on the piston or valves
- Faulty or fouled park plug or coil system issue.
- Bad or Failing fuel injector
- Incorrect fuel octane - using a lower octane than required.
- Oil consumption or PCV issues, resulting in a lower of pre-ignition resistance.
