The aftertreatment fuel pressure sensor's reading is electrically valid but does not match the pressure the control module expects for the commanded dosing state.

Definition

The PCM cross-checks the exhaust aftertreatment fuel pressure sensor against commanded doser and supply-valve states: pressure should be near zero with the system off and rise to target when dosing is active. P20DF sets when the signal stays in range electrically but fails this rationality test, such as pressure that never rises during regeneration or an offset reading at key-on. The PCM usually suspends active DPF regeneration, leading to rising soot load, a MIL, and eventual derate if not repaired.

  • Drifted or skewed aftertreatment fuel pressure sensor
  • Restricted or coked fuel line keeping actual pressure low during dosing
  • Leaking doser injector or supply valve bleeding off pressure
  • High resistance in sensor circuit skewing the signal

Troubleshooting steps

  1. 1.Compare the sensor PID to a mechanical gauge

    Tee in a gauge and compare readings at rest and during a commanded dosing test; disagreement beyond spec condemns the sensor.

  2. 2.Check the zero reading key-on engine-off

    A sensor showing significant pressure with the system depressurized indicates drift or a signal offset.

  3. 3.Command dosing and watch the pressure response

    Pressure that fails to reach target suggests a supply restriction, stuck supply valve, or leaking doser rather than the sensor.

  4. 4.Inspect the supply line and screens

    Look for coking, kinks, or varnish restricting flow to the doser.

    Check for added resistance on the signal and ground wires; more than 0.1 V of drop can skew the reported pressure.
