Definition

Fuel pressure regulator 2 is typically the rail-mounted pressure control valve on dual-actuator high-pressure fuel systems. The PCM monitors the drive circuit's feedback while pulsing the solenoid, and sets this code when it sees an open circuit or an implausible electrical condition. With the valve uncontrolled, the PCM falls back to controlling pressure with regulator 1 alone, which can cause rough running, reduced power, or slow pressure response, and the MIL illuminates. Left unrepaired it can escalate to pressure-control faults such as P0088 or P229B.

  • Broken wire or open in the harness between the PCM and the valve
  • Corroded, backed-out, or damaged connector terminals at the regulator
  • Failed regulator solenoid with an open coil

    Compare coil resistance at the valve pins to the service spec (typically single-digit ohms); an open (OL) reading condemns the valve.

  3. 3.Check circuit continuity and shorts

    With the PCM connector accessed per the wiring diagram, verify near-zero ohms end-to-end on both wires and no continuity to ground or power.

  4. 4.Verify the PCM command

    Back-probe the control wire with a scope or duty-capable meter during cranking or run to confirm a switching signal is present.

  5. 5.Clear codes and confirm the repair

    Run the engine through idle and a load test, confirming the code stays clear and rail pressure tracks commanded values.
