P252CEngine Oil Quality Sensor Circuit Low
The engine oil quality sensor signal is stuck below its normal electrical range, indicating a short to ground or failed sensor.
Definition
Common causes
- Signal wire shorted to ground in the harness below the engine
- Failed oil quality sensor pulling the circuit low internally
- Loss of power feed to the sensor, leaving the signal at 0 V
- Oil-soaked or corroded connector shorting terminals together
- Harness crush or chafe damage from road debris or prior service
Common misdiagnoses
- Unneeded oil changes performed trying to clear an electrical fault
- Oil pressure sender replaced instead of the condition sensor
- PCM replaced before checking the sensor's power supply
- Oil level sensor replaced when the combined sensor's quality circuit is the fault
Troubleshooting steps
1.Read the sensor data
A quality/temperature signal fixed at zero or minimum regardless of engine state confirms a circuit-low condition rather than bad oil.
2.Check sensor power supply
With key on, verify the feed terminal at the connector shows battery or reference voltage; no supply means an open feed or blown fuse upstream.
3.Test for a short to ground
Unplug the sensor and module ends and measure signal-wire resistance to ground; anything but open (OL) means a harness short that must be located and repaired.
4.Inspect the connector and harness
Look for oil wicking, crushed loom, or chafe points where the pan-mounted sensor pigtail routes past brackets and the subframe.
5.Replace the sensor if the circuit is clean
With power present and no wire short, replace the oil quality sensor, refill the oil, and confirm live data returns to plausible values before clearing the code.
