Troubleshooting steps
1.Pull codes and freeze frame
Note when the code sets (immediately at key-on versus only during commanded TCC apply), which separates a hard short from a load-dependent fault.
2.Measure TCC solenoid circuit resistance
At the transmission case connector, measure the solenoid circuit against the service spec (commonly around 10-25 ohms); a near-zero reading indicates a shorted winding.
3.Check the control wire for a short to ground
With connectors disconnected at both ends, verify the control circuit is not shorted to ground or to adjacent circuits.
4.Inspect the pass-through connector
Look for transmission fluid wicking up the harness into the connector and for spread or corroded terminals.
5.Command the solenoid and road test
Use bidirectional control to apply the TCC solenoid while monitoring current/voltage, then road test watching the TCC slip PID, which should drop near 0 RPM when locked.
