On vehicles that have Throttle by wire, the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor is responsible for relaying the desire acceleration to the ECU and Throttle Body Actuator. The Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor is a device that monitors the pedal’s height and sends this information to the ECU. If the accelerator pedal is pressed, an electrical signal is sent from the sensor to the ECU, which in turn increases how far the throttle body is opened. Air flow to engine is increase and additional fuel is delivered to increase engine speed.
If your vehicle is experiencing problems with acceleration or engine performance, it may be due to a faulty Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor. When the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor fails you typically experience:
- No Throttle response
- Check engine light
- high idle
- Intermittent Throttle response issues
