The powertrain control module has detected a fault in the accelerate (resume/accel) button signal from the cruise control switch.
Definition
The PCM or cruise module monitors the accelerate input from the steering-wheel cruise switch, typically one resistance step of a multiplexed switch circuit. P0570 sets when the accel signal is stuck on, appears without a button press, or is out of its expected voltage range. Drivers usually notice cruise control that will not accelerate on command, surges, or is disabled by the module as a failsafe; the MIL generally does not turn on for this convenience-system code, and engine performance and emissions are unaffected.
Common causes
- Sticking or worn accel/resume button in the cruise switch assembly
- Failing clockspring causing intermittent opens or shorts in the switch circuit
- Corroded or damaged wiring/connectors in the steering column harness
- Liquid spilled into the switch pad altering circuit resistance
- Short to voltage or ground on the multiplexed switch signal wire
- Faulty cruise control module or PCM input circuit (rare)
Common misdiagnoses
- Replacing the throttle body or accelerator pedal sensor for a cruise switch fault
- Replacing the brake light switch
- Replacing the cruise servo/actuator on older cable systems
- Replacing the PCM when the clockspring is the intermittent culprit
Troubleshooting steps
1.Monitor cruise switch PIDs on a scan tool
Confirm the accel input toggles only with the accel/resume button and never shows active at rest.
2.Verify the switch voltage steps
Back-probe the switch signal at the module and compare each button's voltage to the service-manual chart; a stuck accel button holds its step continuously.
3.Ohm the switch resistance ladder
Disconnect the switch and measure resistance for each button; out-of-spec or unchanging readings condemn the switch assembly.
4.Check the clockspring and column wiring
Wiggle-test the circuit while turning the steering wheel and watch for signal dropouts indicating a worn spiral cable.
5.Confirm the repair on a road test
Engage cruise, use accel/resume repeatedly, and verify the code stays cleared and speed control responds correctly.
